1. Introduction

*Ensure Recruit can hear you clearly. Check if and request that their microphone is set to push to talk and continue.*

Welcome to The Art of Warfare - TAW for short. I will be your drill instructor today.
Have you reviewed the TAW Code of Ethics included in your acceptance letter?

*If they answer no, please inform them you are unable to complete boot camp until they have reviewed the Code. If they answer yes, continue.*

2. Chain of Command

In TAW we use a chain of command - abbreviated CoC - in a military style. TAW is led by a group of dedicated gamers who comprise Task Force Operations - TFO for short. These members are responsible for the day-to-day running of our organization. Below TFO is your Division which operates as a semi-separate unit, the Command of which runs the day-to-day operations of the Division. If you are unaccustomed to this style of leadership do not worry you'll get used to it in time.

Later, I will show you where you can find your full chain of command information specific to your division.

Current Command Staff:
Major General NoCents [LD DC]
Major MasterOdin [LD DO]
1st Lieutenant Leb [LD1 CO]
1st Lieutenant AnzacDiver [LD3 CO]
2nd Lieutenant Zaledin [LD3 XO]
2nd Lieutenant RazeMBA [LD1 SO]
2nd Lieutenant LeProon [LD3 SO]

Until you have been assigned to a Squad, your first point of contact will be myself and your second point of contact will be your Head Drill Instructor (name them and other appropriate points of contact). If you have any Issues or concerns please bring them to me first and I will help you with them, when you are assigned a Squad you will take any issues you have to your Squad Leader.
*LD has no drill instructors or squads at the moment so first point of contact will be the command staff for that battalion*

3. Attendance & Accountability

Communication works both ways and is a fundamental cornerstone of our organization. This next section regarding attendance and accountability is vitally important. Please don't hesitate to stop me and ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense or is unclear.

While you are a member of TAW, your attendance at mandatory events is vital to your and your team's enjoyment of the game. Your continued membership is also contingent on your attendance. We expect that unless we hear from you, you will be attending team practice. If you are unable to show up, we expect you will notify us through the message center (I'll show you the link to this in a minute).

If you are absent from practice without prior notification, we call this being AWOL which stands for Absent Without Leave. Being AWOL puts you at risk of discharge from TAW.

Please understand we are not trying to come across as dictators. We understand real life takes precedence over any game or game-related situation (strategy meeting, etc.). The bottom line is if you are unable to make a practice or event, please inform us.

After you attend 4 team events - practices, matches, scrimmages, etc. and providing everything else is in good standing, you will be promoted from Recruit to full TAW membership with the rank of Private First Class or PFC.

I will be posting a link in the teamspeak window. Please bookmark it and use it if you're going to miss a practice. At the page, just be sure to select our division.

*Paste this link in the Teamspeak window and ask the recruit to bookmark it for future reference: http://www.theartofwarfare.net/rm.php*

4. Rules of Conduct

I need to make sure you understand this next section on what we find acceptable and unacceptable conduct very clearly, please be sure to stop me and ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense or is unclear.

TAW is like one big family from the newest Recruit to the Commander-in-Chief. Having said this, we like to keep a family atmosphere. What this means for you is:

No Cursing
Clean language and behavior are paramount. Cursing first and foremost is a big NO. Several members of TAW have children that at times watch their parents play, and are likely to be listening to team speak. For this reason and simply to be polite we do not curse.
*Just inform them that while cursing isn't exactly monitored on our channels all that closely, try to keep a polite tongue while at practice or when with other division members*
Diversity in TAW is reality
We are a diverse group from many different countries & backgrounds. Racism, Political, and Religious comments are not to be discussed or debated publicly with any TAW member at anytime.
Respect Everyone
Being a member of TAW also means you will conduct yourself in a respectful manner at all times. For example, never lash out when provoked by someone in game. Simply ignoring their childishness is the only feasible option. If a fellow TAW member is attempting to provoke you, take the issue to the Chain of Command for resolution. In addition, jokingly putting other TAW members down about their skill level, the way they talk, or any other trait real or imagined will not be tolerated and will put you at risk for immediate dismissal.
Complaints, Problems, and Concerns
All requests, problems, concerns, and complaints go through the CoC and should never under any circumstance be brought to a public setting - like a team practice or the forums. Failing to heed this by publicly complaining or griping can lead to immediate dismissal. If you have a problem with something or a gripe, we definitely want to know and want to hear what you have to say.

It is important to understand that bringing these issues to your chain of command is the proper method. Launching complaints into the TAW public is an improper method toward having your concern addressed.

Always remember being in TAW is a privilege and at any time you can be discharged for not following these rules.

5. Moonlighting/Cheating

I want to cover a little bit about moonlighting and cheating with you.

Moonlighting is when a TAW member is also in another clan or guild that plays the same games that we do. For instance - if you are a member of our WOW division and also want to play Left 4 Dead, you are expected to play with/for TAW. This even includes filling-in for an absent member of another team just one time. As a member of TAW you are expected to remain loyal in all situations. If you would rather play on another team simply request a discharge rather than being on both teams at the same time.

NOTE: You may play on your own time on another clan's server and with whomever you wish providing you do not wear their tags or engage in competitive play with them. Realize also that sharing TAW-related tactical information of any kind is forbidden. The best course may be to avoid any situation that seems compromising.

*Ask the recruit if he is currently in any other clans or guilds. If he answers yes and the game is supported by TAW, please inform the CoC as he must be discharged.*
*At this time, activate TS for the recruit through the Black Pages. They should get a new PM on the taw.net website with their login details. Generally, just do this twice so there's no issues later

Cheating is also forbidden in TAW, cheating means using any type of auto-bots, file hacking, or glitching. Glitching is taking advantage of a feature of the game that was not intended to be there by the developers. Climbing inside a rock where you can kill or progress without being harmed, or shooting through walls where you are not supposed to be able to are examples.

Example of this in L4D2 is climbing up the ladder out of the car lot in The Parish and an SI stands on top blocking the way, possibly trapping the survivor if there are zombies underneath.

If you are aware of in game glitches ensure your team mates know about them in order to avoid those areas.

If you are caught moonlighting or cheating, you will be discharged from TAW, no questions asked.

Regarding Left 4 Dead and custom skins - the consensus is that they are unacceptable as deciding what is and is not legitimate is extremely difficult. Use them on your own time - avoid them when playing with TAW.

6. Communication Tools

We use several communication tools in TAW.

These are: Email, Teamspeak, our Forums, and Steam

Email and Teamspeak (TS for short) are our primary tools to communicate. Steam is our back-up in case our email system, website, or Teamspeak go down.

We require all TAW members to have Steam and TS installed and working, if you do not have Steam, congrats on applying to a division for a game you apparently can't play.

7. Teamspeak Protocol

We have a simple and clear communication protocol we use in Teamspeak.

Checking in - When you enter a channel on TS you will always say _Callsign Checking In
*Ask the recruit to repeat it back to you with his callsign*

Checking Out - When you leave an occupied channel on TS you will always say, _Callsign Checking out
*Ask the recruit to repeat it back to you with his callsign*

Break - If for anytime you need to clear the channel of communication you would ask for a break, everyone should stop talking, for you to say what you need to, Break _Callsign
ask the recruit to repeat it back to you with his callsign*

Clear Comms or Clear Channel - This is an order given by the channel commander. When you hear this order, you should immediately be silent regardless of battlefield conditions. Typically if this order is given, it is because the team leader is talking to another team leader through the whisper key system.

Weapons Red - When in game, if the team leader calls for "Weapons Red" this means to stop any actions that harms another player in the game. The best course of action would be to find your team leader in game and simply stand still and wait for further orders.

For Left 4 Dead - If a stop is requested due to loading, AFK, computer trouble etc. players are required to stop forward progress (within reason, defense is acceptable where hordes are concerned) and hold position. Infected are required to hold their spawns and shall not pursue survivors. After a stop, a small window (10 seconds) may be requested to allow proper spawns and weapon acquisition, etc.

8. End of Bootcamp

Now I need to activate your TS account. Please standby for a moment while I complete this part:

*Note, picture by picture help is available by going Support -> Teamspeak -> Connect to a server*

9.99 times out of 10 all registered TS login problems are due to the recruit trying to login incorrectly. To help the recruit, encourage them to copy and paste all their information from their private message to the TS program.

If after all this they are still not able to login, ask the recruit for their password and login as them. Note this is a last resort. Nearly every time you prove to them that there is nothing wrong with their account they are able to login.

Once they have logged back into team speak welcome them to TAW and introduce them to any team members currently on.

*You should give the recruit the Steam IDs of the command staff for your battalion as well as invite them into the TAW L4D steam group*

Before we are finished, do you have any questions about anything we have discussed?

Welcome to TAW, recruit. I hope you enjoy yourself.

*If you do not know the answer, inform your recruit that you will contact the appropriate officer and find out.* *Update your division's Applicant Report for the Recruit. Be sure to include your callsign and the date of completion.*
